The days are getting longer again, the sun stronger. Nevertheless, there is still plenty of snow in many ski areas! Now is the right time for sunny skiing. South Tyrol and the Dolomites are a wonderful place for this. Lots of kilometers of slopes await, as well as cozy ski huts with Michelin-star cuisine, delicious wines and sun terraces! Here you can spend hours on the slopes with friends, roaming the mountains. Stop along the way to enjoy the good food and then stop off for après-ski in the afternoon.

A lifestyle that you can definitely get used to :)

But what is the best thing to pack so that you are well prepared for the slopes? If you are looking for help with smart packing for your ski vacation, this article is for you! Let's start with inspiration for the perfect It-Girl outfit on the slopes. At the end of the article you will also find a practical packing list to print out.

PACKING LIST

Ski-outfits

Ski overalls:

If you want to be on the slopes in the latest trend, you should invest in a ski overall this season. This ski outfit accentuates the figure and also looks very elegant. Another advantage is that the material is usually not too thick, making it suitable for slightly warmer sunny ski days. If the temperature does drop below freezing, you can put on a cropped down jacket and your waist will still be visible.

Overalls:

Jacket:

Ski jacket:

Personally, I find the normal ski outfit of trousers and jacket more practical. You can still be stylish here. The trend here is also towards tighter-fitting jackets - preferably with a belt. If you don't want to do without the cozy warmth of down on frosty days, you should look for an outer layer made of high-quality functional material, because down doesn't like moisture. Seen by Goldbergh:

For those who don't want to wear a belt, there are some tight-fitting jackets that look quite stylish.

If you like to go off-piste, you should pay attention to the safety function of your jacket as well as its style.

Many brands now offer ski jackets (or trousers) that usually have a RECCO® transponder built in, so that buried people can be found more quickly using the tracking system. One of my favorite brands that combines style and safety function is Helly Hansen

Ski pants:

Ski pants in a flared style are trendy. Tight-fitting at the top and wide at the bottom, these pants are the new eye-catcher on the slopes.

The pants in the classic colors white and black can be easily combined with any outfit. However, I always tend to go for darker colors, otherwise dirt is quickly visible.

This type of ski pants is usually very comfortable to wear due to their fit.

In addition, they are mostly breathable and temperature-regulating. This means that they can be used for skiing in any weather. Whether in the morning when the temperature is below zero or in the afternoon when sunbathing in the ski hut.

I discovered Roxy as a brand for ski pants because I really like the cut and the pants also fit perfectly at the waist.

Helmets and ski goggles

Over time, helmets have gone from being purely functional safety items to being stylish accessories. But they should definitely fit properly. Since many people have problems finding the right ski helmet, here are a few examples of different head shapes.

Oval head shape:

Alpina and Uvex helmets have always fit me well. Of course, it also depends on the model. The adjustable fastener at the back of the head makes it possible to adjust the helmets as desired. Uvex has also recently introduced the Ias system, which allows you to adjust the width of the helmets. I have had helmets from both brands and have not had any pressure points or an uncomfortable feeling after wearing them for a long time. I can also report positive experiences with Uvex customer service, where a helmet was easily replaced after a fall under the warranty service.

Round shape:

A brand that I have wanted a ski helmet from for a long time, but cannot wear because of the fit, is Poc. Poc is a brand that I only recommend for round heads. The design is very stylish and the helmets are equipped with the latest technology. Furthermore, the width can also be adjusted using a small wheel at the back of the head.

Ski goggles:

Many people choose ski goggles that are already attached to the helmet. Personally, however, I prefer separate ski goggles. This gives you a bit more flexibility. In any case, don't forget your helmet when trying them on! Not all goggles fit every helmet.

Ski underwear

The right underwear is very important for skiing. Clothes without the right underwear can quickly get damp and you freeze or, in the worst case, get sick. I have been wearing Uniqlo ski underwear for a long time and I am very happy with it.

It is very comfortable to wear and does not scratch like some conventional wool underwear. It also absorbs moisture and keeps the body pleasantly warm. Another very advantageous feature is that it does not absorb odors and so still smells fresh even after a long day of skiing. Uniqlo has several heat settings so you can find the right one for every temperature. Especially when skiing in the sun, I recommend packing different thicknesses and adjusting to the respective weather conditions.

Hats

In the cold weather in the mountains, your head and neck should definitely be covered. Hats and scarves are of course part of the perfect outfit. Here are some inspirations.

Hat:

You can of course take the classic beanie with you on your ski vacation. It goes with all outfits, is simple and keeps you warm enough. The most popular color is off-white, as you can combine it with bright colors as well as plain ones. The beanie is also a very timeless hat and you can wear it with all styles.

Something a little more unusual is a hat with a fur pompom, which I personally find very chic for winter holidays. The fur creates a connection to a very classic and rather high-quality style.

However, if you want to be the new trendsetter on your ski vacation, you should get a bucket hat. They are currently very popular in the fashion world and more and more people are wearing this look. The bucket hat comes in a variety of different versions, each of which conveys a slightly different style. It should be remembered that fake fur is currently on the rise in the fashion world, but you can't go wrong with teddy fur either.

Another hat that is increasingly seen in the media is modeled on the Russian fur hat and has a luxurious-looking style.

Stylish balaclavas for skiing are available from Barts, for example.

Scarves and gloves

Scarves:

For a scarf, I recommend a simple look in cream white, as it is so timeless and can be worn with anything. The fluffy and thick look is usually very popular, as it not only looks chic, but is also very warm and comfortable to wear. A brand that is very popular when it comes to scarves is Acne Studios. They offer a variety of beautiful designs and pay attention to the quality of their products.

Gloves:

There isn't really a new trend when it comes to gloves. In addition to the more functional ski gloves, I personally find mittens made of teddy or leather with fur inserts very nice on colder days. They look very stylish thanks to the unusual materials and also keep you pleasantly warm.

If you want something a little more elegant or the temperatures are not too cold, I recommend simple leather gloves as they look very classic and luxurious.

Other ski vacation must-haves

Fur Coat:

One of the most popular fashion trends for the current winter is the vintage fur coat. It's best worn with a matching hat. Fur coats are classic and keep you warm even in colder temperatures. You can put the jackets over any outfit and it makes it look extraordinary.

Après Ski Sweater:

If you go on a ski holiday without an après ski sweater, you've definitely done something wrong. The sweaters not only keep you warm, but they also fit the theme perfectly! Whether you're partying in the hut or getting cozy in front of the fireplace: the sweater is a must-have that combines style and practicality.

A brand that can be found again and again in fashion magazines and has recently become more popular is Perfect Moment. They make après ski sweaters that are simple but still have a beautiful design. The cut is also very tight, so the sweater accentuates the figure, which looks very elegant.

Moon Boots:

They come back every year. The moon boots! Some people find these shoes incredibly beautiful, others ugly. There are definitely mixed opinions about this design, but one thing cannot be denied: every few years there is a new trend. It must also be said that the selection of stylish snow boots is not very large.

Moon boots are therefore a must when you are out in the snow. Because they have one practical feature: they are very robust.

Moisture cannot harm these shoes and your feet will not lack warmth in the boots either!

Tipps für die Piste:

Cold Cream:

In the cold temperatures in the mountains and the icy wind, the skin dries out much more quickly than normal and often develops rough patches. Avène has developed a cream especially for temperatures below freezing down to -10 degrees that protects the skin from the cold and keeps it supple and well-cared for. I recommend it to anyone who already has problems with dry skin and wants to expand their daily routine on a skiing holiday. The cream is suitable for all skin types.

Warning! : Don't forget to wear sunscreen on the slopes during the day. The snow reflects the sun's rays and it is easy to underestimate the danger posed by the sun.

Heatpads:

Even though these foot warmers are not necessarily sustainable, I advise everyone to use heat pads when skiing on cold days, as numb feet in ski boots are incredibly uncomfortable. These heat pads can simply be stuck to the bottom of the foot and will keep you warm for up to 8 hours. My tip is to open the heat pads some time before using them, as they take a while to develop their full warming effect.

For your hands, however, I recommend the reusable, classic hand warmers because they are much more sustainable than the disposable pads.
